Argh, it’s so frustrating to move to a new place with someone who is working all the time. I need some friends, a support group. I need a walking buddy. It seems all I do these days is come home, clean, do laundry, eat and watch TV. I’m so utterly lonely sometimes. :(

i played hookie from work and we spent the entire day together. Got some Chinese for lunch, and had people over for dinner! After eating the dinner, our friend said to my husband ”whenever we eat here, I feel like we’ve just eaten a meal that would have cost $500”. i know that always makes my husband smile. We ended up going out for karaoke after and then cocktails at the Gibson. It was a splendid day indeed :)

Last febuary I got engaged to my husband and then in June he got offered a job in VA we were living in Baltimore at the time so he moved in with my parents for 2 months before we eventually moved to VA. I stayed in Baltimore for 2 months to pack up and I had to find a new place to live in VA, plan my wedding and pack by myself. I feel your pain! It was tough but we made it through. I wish you luck!

In reply to - Annie posted an update in the group Marriage: I’m engaged so technically I fit into this group? Hmm…Eastern Market, I’ll have to look that up. I grew up on the MD side of DC, but as an adult I lived in Baltimore and Vermont, so things to do that are more adult related I’m at a loss for. As a child i did the Smithsonian like no other, but that is all I know to do in DC, well that and drinking at The Gibson.

Ooh, those are great ideas! Thanks! At this point I like anything that gets me away from the addictive TV!

In reply to - Lara Schuyler posted an update in the group DC – Other Halves: Welcome those new to the group! Glad to see others in the same boat as me in DC! I just moved here from Baltimore and am still trying to find out what there is to do around here. Any suggestions? · View

Lara – there are MANY of us from DC (they just have to find the site and sign up still!) What do you like to do? There is an AWESOME independent movie theater called E Street Theater that I LOVE to go to!) In the summer you definitely have to check out the Lotus’ at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. The Hirshhorn Museum of Contemporary art has these awesome evening events called After Hours – check it out! (Maybe we can coordinate this summer!) My personal favorite (because I have been volunteering since 2004 – is the National Building Museum. Just a few suggestions!

Komi was spectacular! We ended up fall down drunk by the end of the night. Probably shouldn’t have had those two cocktails at Passenger before dinner! Ever single course was fantastic, I was mighty impressed!

I moved with my husband to Vermont (before we were married) so he could attend culinary school. It was tough, but I learned so much about food and wine when he went to school. His classmates considered me one of their own! It was a pretty amazing 2 years. Are you moving away from home [...]

I totally understand being the planner and the doer. My husband is ADD and works 60+ hours a week! If i don’t do something, it really won’t ever get done. My husband takes meds for his ADD, but since he works late, he usually doesn’t take it until right before service, which means his time [...]

They have sample days where they sample chocolate and pour wine to pair with them. I think this could be a great opportunity for some DC Other Halves to meet up and get to know each other over wine and chocolate!

If anyone is interested, let me know. The store’s website is: http://www.biagiochocolate.com/

We are having a late dinner at Komi in Dupont. I haven’t decided what we will do during the day, maybe hit up museums and such. I’m just happy to have a day off with him!

My personal Valentine’s day starts tomorrow! It’s way better to have dinner out after VDay as it’s much quieter and personal. Hope yours went well!

So my Valentine came home early! At 11pm! Can you believe it!? He came home with my favourite bottle of wine and a card. So sweet! We popped it open and downed the whole bottle, worth staying up late! Tomorrow is our own personal Valentine’s Day, excited for Dinner at Komi!
