The Fun Stuff

Favorite food

I have a not so secret obsession with chex mix and salty foods in general! I’d eat a block of taleggio for dinner if it wouldn’t go straight to my hips!

How does your perfect day begin?

With a fruit smoothie and a cappucino :)

What would your ultimate job be?

I really love what I’m doing now.

How did you meet?

I grew up in New Hampshire. My husband and I went to the same highschool together. He was a grade below me and friends with my brother. My senior year of highschool, his junior, we had this secret admirer program where guys could leave flowers for their crushes in the front office. So I get called out of 5th period to grab my secret admirer flowers and they were from him! Up until that point he had only said hello to me in the hallways and I was so insanely shy in highschool that I would barely be able to squeak out a wavering “hello” back. There was NO way I was going back to class with these flowers and have to explain them to my entire classroom. So what’d I do? I asked our secretary if I could run out to the pickup truck my brother and I shared. I promply layed flat across the two jump seats with the dozen roses on the floor and waited 2 full hours until my brother got out of his classes.

My brother was shocked to find me out there at the end of the day. On our 15 minute ride home I knew I had to come up with a creative reason that I would never have to speak to this guy again when my mom suggested I at least thank the poor kid. I told my mother he was a drug dealer (complete lie for the record). Whose mother would let them date a drug dealer, right?! Well thankfully she agreed and I rolled right in to the summer without ever even thanking him.

I moved to Boston that fall for my first year of college and kicked my shy bit once and for all. Heading back to New Hampshire that summer my brother had given him my screen name in AIM which was still big at the time. Online chatting was comfortable for me and after some time we exchanged phone numbers and dated for the summer.

We dated those three months before he headed off to culinary school and it was all long distance from there (5 years! still can’t believe we made it)through his culinary school, my graduate school, and first jobs. We crashed into each other in Washington, DC after he engaged me 3 years ago on Christmas eve and we’re now in the first year of our marriage!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Possibly here, possible back in the northeast, possibly with babies, possibly with a bit of a different career. I’ve learned to be flexible with the mister’s job. I figure as long as I have at least 4 out of the 5 things I need to be happy I’ll be just fine.
